COVID-19 update (May 2020)

A message from the Board of Directors and our Managing Agents

Dear Residents,

We are living in extraordinary times. The requirement that we all stay at home during the Coronavirus outbreak raises a number of issues for those living in a large block of flats. While the vast majority of residents will no doubt be extremely sensitive to the needs of their neighbours at this difficult time, we are introducing a number of measures designed to:

(a) limit as much as possible the extent to which everyone is (and especially our most vulnerable residents are) exposed to the Coronavirus; and

(b) reduce disturbance in the building, given that there are now many more people in the building during the day (some may be trying to work).

The following measures are in addition to the existing measures that you have been informed of separately.

For the purposes of this note “isolating” means that you are required to stay in your flat because you are (i) ill with Coronavirus/COVID-19 symptoms or (ii) within the category of vulnerable people (as defined government advice).

1. Noise

Please try to keep noise to a minimum. Residents are asked not to play loud music at any time of the day.  If you are exercising in your flat, please be mindful of the noise created that may impact flats around you.

2. Works to flats

Renovation works to individual flats should now be placed on hold.  We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.  This is to reduce both the number of potential carriers of the Coronavirus and noise in the building.  If you have any renovation works planned, please contact the on-site team to discuss your individual circumstances.  Emergency works to deal with, for example, a leak is permitted, but please discuss this with the on-site team first.

3. Lifts

Clearly, it is very difficult to remain two metres apart from anyone in a lift. Accordingly, in order to limit the potential for the spread of the Coronavirus in the lifts:

(i) if you can, please use the staircase (but if you are using the handrail, please remember to wash your hands afterwards), particularly if you live on the lower floors; and

(ii) if you are waiting for the lift and there is an elderly person (or person with an underlying medical condition) in the lift, please wait for the next lift (or the lift to empty).

4. Food deliveries

If you are having food delivered (e.g. Deliveroo), the delivery driver will be asked to leave the food at the front door. After being contacted, please go downstairs to collect your food (as is common practice in many buildings these days, for security purposes). However, if you are isolating, please alert a member of the on-site team in advance of the food delivery.

5. Refuse

If you suspect you may have COVID-19, please ensure that you double-bag all refuse sacks.  Please do not, under any circumstance, allow tissues etc. to become discarded in any area of the block.

6. Shopping

If you are isolating and do not have anyone who can help you with your shopping, please speak to a member of the on-site team and we will see if we can arrange for someone to assist you.  If you are not isolating and would be available to help others in the building less fortunate than you, please let the on-site team know (this is especially true if you have already had Coronavirus).

7. Visitors

We would strongly advise adherence to the government’s guidance that you do not have any visitors to your property, other than those who are attending to assist with health concerns or other urgent matters.

As you will be aware, the impact of Coronavirus is changing on a daily basis, and it may become necessary to update these measures from time to time.

We wish everyone the very best in the coming weeks. Please stay safe, and keep well and follow Government guidelines.

Yours sincerely

R. Michaels
